Since starting to plan this wedding thing I've realized there is a lot out there that I was unaware of. There is this whole other world that surrounds weddings, with it's own language and etiquette system. Even before I was engaged I liked to play on TheKnot (TK) and peruse wedding gowns and engagement rings but, now that I'm part of the club, I've delved deeper into the world the of TK and let me tell you....it's a scary scary place.
Let's be honest, brides are rude.
They get this odd sense of entitlement the second their fiancé (or FI if you're truly in the loop) slips that ring on their finger. Then life becomes all about linens and colors and crinolines (I didn't even know what that was!).
Now, since we're being honest, I'll let you in on a secret: I'm inching closer and closer to becoming one of those crazy women who has wedding on the brain 24/7. I even pushed FI (yes, I surrendered) to the point where he had to outlaw wedding talk in the bedroom. And, since I have too much time on my hands, I've gone from constantly browsing recipes for my next kitchen experiment to constantly reading TK boards. Some of the brides on there are just outright mean with the name calling and degrading, but I keep going back...
A few things I've learned since becoming and obsessed bride:
Tiered Reception - where you invited group 1 to the ceremony, reception, & dancing....group 2 to the reception & dancing.....group 3 just to dancing. See? Rude.
Crinoline - basically a petticoat to support your obnoxiously poofy princess bridal gown.
Honeymoon Registry - something that is highly frowned upon the TK boards (but not so much on the actual Knot) where you register for cash instead of gifts. I think it's kind of a cool idea for those couples who already have everything, get with the times people!
Wedding Gown Fabrics - there are apparently tons of fabrics including silk, satin, duchess satin, charmeuse, shantung, chiffon, taffeta, organdy, tulle, organza....just to name a few!
Wedding Gown Silhouettes - its not just ball gowns, a-lines and mermaids but, there are so many others; Fit-N-Flare, Sheath, Column, Empire, Trumpet and Baby Doll. Not to mention the different necklines, and lengths and trains, it's all so confusing!
Pomanders - you know those cute flower balls that are becoming more and more popular at weddings? Well apparently that's what they're called.
I could go on, but I won't bore you with my wedding vocabulary inadequacies, plus I must go back to TK boards and check on the 'threads I'm watching'...
...it's an addiction.
