the beach

Last weekend J and I took the kids down to Pensacola and we had a blast! J needed to get fitted for a tux at Mens Wearhouse and that was the closest one (130 miles away) so we made the best of it. There's nothing like a little sun, surf and sand to brighten your outlook! It was just what I needed.

As many beaches as I've visited around the world...nothing compares to that white sand, I was in awe. The only downside is that, unlike California, nothing in that area of the panhandle is dog-friendly. We did go searching and found a dog "beach/park" in Pensacola which was fun and then, off the advice from the lady at a dog bakery in Fort Walton, found a little marina and boardwalk in Destin Beach that was dog-friendly. We even ate at Harry T's with the pups, the waiter brought them a water bowl and they were stopping traffic (as per usual).

I can't wait to go back, I think next we'll try to stay in Destin. Although, I found a place down the road that is completely dog-friendly. Everywhere in Gulf County dogs are allowed on the beach, but we would definitely be on our own because all of the towns down there seem a little 'sleepy' (just our style!)

The most impressive part of our mini-vacation? We actually continued our work-out regime while at the hotel. The people in the room below us probably weren't too happy with all our jumping around, but we tried to be courteous and work out during the day. Plus we did tons of walking around and didn't really gorge ourselves on crappy food (okay, ONE Whataburger on the way into Pensacola; we were desperate).

Mmmm, now I'm just dreaming about going back and wandering for miles down the deserted beaches, probably frying my pale skin.
